Evanescence‘s Amy Lee has achieved a whole slew of firsts with the release of new album, Aftermath. Most importantly, it’s her film score debut, serving as the soundtrack to the upcoming War Story. It’s also Lee’s first album release since 2011, and the first time Lee has worked on a compilation of original material without high-end production and budgeting.

Taking on an entirely new writing process, Lee collaborated with Dave Eggar and Chuck Palmer to produce a record completely different from what Evanescence fans are used to. “War Story is a very dark, very introspective film,” said Lee, “so the music on Aftermath is not what my fans will be expecting. We’ve combined all sorts of different sounds—synthesizers, cellos, trombones, harps—all on top of each other. In many ways, we didn’t write a traditional soundtrack album, we used music to create a series of atmospheres.”

Aftermath is available to purchase now via Amazon or iTunes. Check out a teaser for the song “Lockdown” below and look out for an official review from Boxx
