It’s called “The Skylar Effect,” a term this 26-year-old singer-songwriter’s tourmates came up with to describe the way Gudasz spellbinds audiences. Though the North Carolina artist has yet to release her solo record (for now, catch her 7″ “Car Song”/”Dream Lover” Big Star cover release), Gudasz has come up the ranks as an excelled performer—she’s one of the members behind the Big Star Third touring tribute band and has shared the stage with Ray Davies, Robyn Hitchcock, Sharon Van Etten and members of R.E.M. and Wilco among others. Check out her video for “Car Song,” an evocative, heartfelt explosion that fills the crevices of the empty ballroom that falls dark around her glowing spotlight.
If you’re in L.A. see Skylar Gudasz perform a Big Star tribute show at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre also featuring Aimee Mann, Dan Wilson, Pete Yorn, Dean Wareham, Jason Schwartzman and members of Grouplove and the Bangles. The show will benefit the Autism Thinktank.
