TLC to Reunite for Mixtape Festival July 27

This year the Mixtape Festival will take over Hersheypark Stadium in Hersey, Pennsylvania for its second year.
Mixtape’s biggest announcement is that TLC will be reuniting to perform on the festival’s Saturday night lineup. It’s been eleven years since the death of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozanda “Chili” Thomas have performed only a few times together since. The most high-profile performance being in May 2011 on “American Idol.”
TLC incorporated elements of R&B, hip hop, soul, and funk into their tracks and enjoyed unprecedented success in the 1990s—their album Ooooooohhh… On the TLP Tip sold six million copies worldwide. They were known for pointing out double standards placed on women in their smart and quirky lyrics. They also weren’t afraid to be vocal about safe sex; Left Eye often playfully wore glasses with a condom over one eye.
It’s unsure how the two surviving members plan to incorporate Left Eye into their performance. There have been rumors of a hologram, but that seems out of budget. They may have her image on a screen and playback loops of her parts, or they may have a special guest to fill in and honor Left Eye. Only way to find out is to attend.
Tickets for Mixtape Festival 2013, which will be presented by Live Nation and VH1, go one sale on Friday, May 10 at 10:00 am ET.
